Surround Sound Speaker Placement

I Just Bought A 7.1 Speaker Syystem From Onkyo And I Have A Question About The Palcement Of Speakers. My Home Entertainment Room Is In My Basement Which Doen't Have Much Space. A Have 57" 1081i Hdtv Which Takes Up A Lot Of Room. Most Most Distance A Can Put The Front Speakers Is 6" From The Tv. Now For The Rear Sorround Speakers I Have About 3 Feet From Where I Will Be Seating To Place Those Speekers. The Other 2 Speakers That Are Directly Behind Me And Are Fine. My Question Is Are The Distances I Stated Too Short To Get The Most Out Of My Speakers? I've Read That The Front Speakers Should Be At Least 6 Feet Away From The Tv! I Don't Got Even Have A Foot Of Space To Work With. Also The Left Rear And Front Speakers Are Very Close To The Wall While The Right Rear And Front Speakers Are Not Close To A Wall. WIll That Cause Distortion? Is It Bad To Have All 6 Speakers Too Close To Each Other As I Will Have To?
